Sun Island Bali sponsored mine and Guil’s stay at each property; as always, all opinions are my own.
As magical as Bali can be, there are certain areas of the island that leave you scrambling for fresh air — like when speeding motorbikes clog the streets and hordes of tourists fill the sidewalks, and you’re stuck in the middle of it all.
Sun Island Bali recognizes this: The hospitality company operates five hotel properties throughout Bali, each offering their own escape from the stuffy crowds outside.
My boyfriend Guil and I were lucky enough to stay in two Sun Island hotels during our time in Bali, the White Rose Resort Villas & Spa and the Sun Island Hotel & Spa Kuta.
And after braving the traffic in Ubud, we were certainly ready for a relaxing weekend.
White Rose Resort Villas & Spa
So you can imagine our excitement when we walked into the White Rose, an oasis of a resort in one of the most happening areas of Bali. Located in the tourist-friendly Kuta-Legian region, the White Rose was the breath of fresh air we we needed.
First, the hotel sits at the end of a quiet road stemming from one of Kuta’s main arteries. There are numerous restaurants, shops and bars nearby, yet the hotel is secluded enough to keep the noise away. When we strolled into White Rose’s large, tree-lined, open-air courtyard, we instantly felt relaxed.
Second, our room was incredible.
We stayed in a private villa with its own outdoor pool and a beautiful spa-like bathtub. The glass-lined outdoor shower and bathroom really gave you a sense of place: the design and decor screamed, “welcome to Bali!” The room interior was the nicest we’ve encountered on our trip around the world. There were wooden Balinese touches that meshed with a sleek modern design, creating a clean and chic look.
Our private pool was ideally sized for two, and if we wanted more space, we’d simply walk to the massive resort-style pool a few feet away. In all honesty, we never wanted to leave the room. We could’ve spent an entire week there. The White Rose also has an on-site restaurant, so if you’re looking for a reason to stay in all day, this hotel has got you covered.
As of September 2018, the villa we stayed in was available for less than $200 per night, and the standard double rooms can range from $50 to $60 per night on Booking.com.
Sun Island Hotel & Spa Kuta
Guil and I also had the chance to experience a stay at the Sun Island Hotel & Spa Kuta, which is conveniently located 10 minutes from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Here’s my travel tip of the day: Splurge a little, and snag a pool-access room if you stay here. Trust me, it’s worth it. You’re in Bali, after all.
We stayed in a deluxe double room with direct access to a uniquely designed pool at the center of the hotel. The property was built surrounding the pool, giving it an aesthetically pleasing symmetrical design that made for some fantastic photos.
Vacation doesn’t get much better than having a pool right outside your hotel room. We enjoyed our morning swims and slept like babies in our room’s comfortable bed.
In summer 2018, the pool access room started at $77, but regular rooms were on sale for as low as $64 on Booking.com.
Thank you to Sun Island for hosting us in Bali. Both properties certainly gave us some much-needed comfort. When you’ve been on the road for as long as we have, sometimes all you need is a day in which you never leave your room — coupled with room service and your own private pool.
We look forward to exploring Sun Island’s other three properties on our next trip to Bali.
